Student Privacy

How BuzzerBug Class Mode handles student data — built for classroom-safe use.

Summary: BuzzerBug Class Mode is designed to collect as little as possible. Students do not create accounts and we do not collect personal information from them.

No student accounts or personal data

To join a class, a student enters a class code and a display name (typically a first name). We do not collect student emails, passwords, real names, ages, photos, contact details, or location. There is no student login.

What we store, and why

For a class a teacher creates, we store the chosen display name, the quiz questions, the answers a student selected, and their score — solely so the teacher can see results. This data is tied to the class, not to any student identity or account.

No advertising or third-party tracking in Class Mode

The student play experience contains no third-party advertising and no behavioral ad tracking. We do not sell or share student data, and we never use it to build profiles or for marketing.

Data retention and deletion

Class sessions and their data are automatically and permanently deleted after 60 days. A teacher can also delete a class and all of its student data at any time from the class screen. To request deletion or ask a question, contact support@buzzerbug.com.

COPPA & FERPA

Because Class Mode does not collect personal information from children, it is built to support COPPA-compliant classroom use, and there is no education record stored that would implicate FERPA. We are happy to review and sign a district Data Privacy Agreement (including SDPC / NDPA) — contact us.

Security

Data is stored with Google Cloud (Firestore) and transmitted over HTTPS. Access to class results requires the teacher key issued when the class is created.
